SECONDARY CURRICULUM

In secondary school at Hamelin-Laie International School Barcelona, we follow the Spanish National Curriculum with many integrated global contexts, from our international learning environment in Spain. As an international secondary school in Barcelona, our students primarily learn in English, but also have opportunities to learn in Spanish and Catalan. We build each child’s personal toolbox with personal and academic skills, sculpting out their individual talents and enriching their social and emotional skills.

PROJECT-BASED TEAMWORK AND ENQUIRY

Our secondary students engage in collaborative projects that strengthen their teamwork and leadership skills, while encouraging values of cooperation, tolerance, and assertiveness. Through group projects, they bring their ideas together and create solutions.

All our students are enquirers – they learn how to formulate questions or hypotheses that lead to unexpected discoveries. In experimental subjects – technology, biology, physics, and chemistry – they work together in the lab to explore their questions and find solutions.

MATHEMATICAL THINKING

Students go through a variety of hands-on learning experiences in mathematical settings that encourage their understanding of concepts – as well as connections to how these ideas, functions, and calculations happen in the world.

ACTIVE LEARNING

Boosting students’ concentration and intuition, we encourage an active learning approach in class, where all students participate in experiences and thoughtfully engage with the lesson. Students explore different active techniques that help their lessons become more effective and feel more exciting.

THEATRE AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

Another exciting aspect of our secondary school curriculum is our many opportunities to get immersed in theatre and public speaking. These classes improve students’ memory, time management, and organisational skills. They also build their resilience as they persevere through difficulties, express themselves, and build confidence.
