Frequently asked questions

  • What kind of rooms do students stay in?

All campers enjoy individual rooms with private ensuite bathrooms. Each room includes air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and ample storage space. The boarding houses also have washers and dryers available for student use at any time. Students cannot have a roommate, as all rooms are individual, but they can indicate a friend preference to be placed in the same corridor or floor whenever possible.

  • What nationalities attend the camp?

In 2025, Hamelin-Laie welcomed students from over 18 different nationalities, which is remarkable given the camp’s small and exclusive capacity. This diversity creates a truly international and enriching atmosphere.

  • What is the camp’s maximum capacity?

The camp accepts a maximum of 45 residential students plus a limited number of day campers, ensuring an intimate environment and personalized attention.

  • What is the weekly schedule like?

Monday and Friday mornings are dedicated to half-day cultural trips to Barcelona. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are for sports sessions, and Wednesday is Outdoor Fun Day, featuring team games and activities such as climbing, karting or bowling. In the afternoons, students attend English or Spanish language lessons, and evenings are reserved for team games, themed nights, and social activities.

  • How are the language lessons organized?

Students can choose between English or Spanish lessons. A placement test on arrival ensures they join the right group (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced). Lessons are dynamic, interactive, and focused on communication and teamwork.

  • Are students allowed to leave campus on their own?

No. For safety reasons, students are not allowed to leave the campus without staff supervision. All trips and excursions are organized and led by the camp team.

  • What medical support is available?

A school nurse is on site during the day, and several staff members are trained in first aid. In case of illness or emergency, students are accompanied to a local medical centre and parents are informed immediately. Families are also required to book an international medical insurance for their trip.

  • What happens if a student gets sick during camp?

Our nurse provides daytime care, and the team ensures constant supervision. Any medical visit or treatment is managed directly by camp staff, with families notified promptly.

  • How is phone use managed?

To encourage social interaction, students can only use their phones during three daily time windows (morning, midday, evening) of approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour each.

  • How are airport transfers managed?

Group transfers to and from Barcelona El Prat Airport are included on the official arrival and departure days. If the student travels as a UM (Unaccompanied Minor), we provide a dedicated service for an additional 50€ per way, which includes personal pick-up, escort, and check-in assistance.

  • What are the payment and refund conditions?

A 25% deposit is required to confirm the booking. This deposit is non-refundable, except in the event of a visa denial, in which case official documentation must be provided. The final balance is due two weeks before the camp starts.

  • The form is prepared for credit card payment, but can I pay by bank transfer?

Yes. Families who prefer to pay by bank transfer can contact sup.pablo.gonzalez@hamelinschool.com, and we will provide the payment instructions.

  • How is student safety ensured?

Supervision is provided 24 hours a day for residential campers. Staff members live on campus, and security personnel monitor the premises overnight.

  • What national language is used at camp?

English is the main language of communication among students and staff, though most staff members are bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • What should students pack?

A detailed list is provided after registration, but essentials include comfortable clothes, sportswear, swimwear, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, toiletries, and any necessary medication with prescription.
