Hamelin-Laie Students Develop Leadership Skills at the NAE Social Impact Summit 2026

What does it mean to make invisible challenges visible? For Bianka and Maya, it meant spending a week at the NAE Social Impact Summit 2026 in Houston, working alongside students from Nord Anglia schools around the world to explore how young people can lead meaningful social change.
As part of Nord Anglia Education's partnership with UNICEF, students explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through workshops, group discussions and peer presentations, all centred on this year's theme, Making the Invisible Visible.
Working in international teams, they shared ideas, developed solutions to real world challenges and discovered how young people can create meaningful change in their communities. Along the way, they strengthened their communication, teamwork and leadership skills while gaining a broader global perspective.

Turning Ideas into Action
One of the most valuable aspects of the summit was its focus on action. A standout experience was volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, the largest food bank in the United States. There, students helped sort and prepare food for families in need, gaining first-hand insight into how a large-scale community organisation operates and seeing the tangible impact that social action can have on people's lives.
Inspiring Experiences Beyond the Conference
The week also included a visit to the British International School of Houston, where students took part in a UNICEF advocacy workshop and continued developing project ideas with other Nord Anglia students. A visit to NASA's Space Center offered another perspective on innovation and problem solving, demonstrating how ambitious thinking and collaboration can help tackle some of the world's greatest challenges.
Bringing New Ideas Back to Hamelin
Back at Hamelin-Laie, Bianka and Maya have returned with new ideas, greater confidence and a renewed commitment to making a positive difference. Their experience is a reminder that leadership begins with understanding others, taking action and believing that even small contributions can create meaningful change.

Our Commitment to Social Impact
At Hamelin-Laie, we believe learning extends beyond the classroom. Through opportunities such as the NAE Social Impact Summit, students connect their learning to real world challenges while developing the confidence, empathy and global perspective needed to make a positive contribution to society. This commitment is part of our wider approach to Social Purpose, which empowers students to make a positive impact locally and globally through service, advocacy and community engagement.
